Electric and induction stoves now require specific compliance under SNI IEC 60335-2-9, a category that faced lighter scrutiny previously.

Malaysia’s Energy Commission has launched large-scale enforcement operations under the Electricity Regulations 1994, covering 34 controlled appliance categories.

Enforcement has focused heavily on hair dryers, electric kettles, microwaves, refrigerators, washing machines, and vacuum cleaners.

A significant driver of this enforcement has been the discovery of illegal phone chargers and adapters circulating through physical retail and e-commerce channels.

Air conditioners now face an updated star rating schedule for energy efficiency, layered on top of existing MS IEC 60335 safety requirements.

The Philippines expanded its own mandatory list through Bureau of Philippine Standards Memorandum Circular No. 26-01, covering 25 household appliance categories.

Washing machines, inverter air conditioners, induction cookers, and televisions up to 55 inches, an expansion from the previous 45-inch threshold, now require certification.
